What is the single best piece of advice you would give to someone who is just starting out playing golf?

Have a few lessons ( seriously ) . Once you get a decent swing its practice practice practice.

Its not all about how far you hit a ball off the tee, the short game counts for more shots than driving, learn to chip, putt, bunker shots.

Most important thing............enjoy it!What is the single best piece of advice you would give to someone who is just starting out playing golf?
Have at least 10 lessons with a golf pro. Between lessons go to a driving range to practise what you are taught. Then go to a pay and play golf course and play on a real course. Be sure to observe the dress code as you might be denied entry and be sure to buy some proper golf shoes.

Finally do not expect to be able to play well in just a few weeks as it will take considerably longer. Once you get over the worst, you will understand what I mean when you start to play, you will get hooked and want to play all day every day. What is the single best piece of advice you would give to someone who is just starting out playing golf?
The best piece of advice I could give a beginner is to learn proper course etiquette. Which includes course management. People can deal with a bad golfer if he knows proper etiquette and does not slow down pace of play.
Go to your local coarse and get some lessons and suscribe to Golf Digest, they have alot of good articles about how to fix your game. Also, if you have a good short game low scores will follow.
Buy some golf clubs and a van load of balls, buy a punch bag to put in your bedroom for when you get home after spending the day on the course.
Having just taken up golf myself i would suggest going to a driving range and booking some lessons with someone who knows what they are doing.

good luck
just enjoy enjoy enjoy
Go to driving range hit a couple of golf balls and then sign up for a golf lesson. Then practice, practice, practice.
Before you even swing the club, make sure that you can consistantly get the right stance and grip.
Practice putting!
Same advice i would give to any newbie....Practise, practise and practise
Try swimming instead.
don't listen to anybody who plays off of an handicap above 6.
Have fun and enjoy the outdoors
relax/enjoy the game
DON'T
